Norwich need to improve 'game management' - Rowe

Jonathan Rowe (centre) made his league debut for Norwich in a top-flight game against Crystal Palace in December 2021 Norwich City need to improve their game management when holding a lead to achieve their goal of promotion this season, says forward Jonathan Rowe.

Norwich are seventh in the Championship going into the international break.

"We just didn't manage the game properly at the end and were punished for it," Rowe told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"I think we should have tried to keep possession more and see the game out. It was a bit of a scrappy game in general, but it was so unfortunate to concede a goal at that time.

"But that happens in football and we've got to support each other and make sure we come back better.

"You can come to away games and get scrappy wins and everyone's happy, or you can lose, but you've got to take it as it goes. Hopefully in the future we can correct the mistakes and have a more positive outcome."

Norwich began the season by taking 10 points from their opening four games, but have struggled for results of late, winning only one of the past five - and losing three of them.

Despite that, Rowe said: "I've got so much confidence in this team. You can see from the first month the kind of football we can play. If we get back to that, which we will, we'll be flying again.

"I take my personal accolades, treasure them, and use them as motivation - but I care about the team as well.

"I honestly think that we are good enough to get promoted this season. We've just got to show it on the pitch.

"We've all got to realise that's it's only the start of the season still, we're not half-way through yet, so we have many more games to go before we can actually start really judging ourselves."

Rowe's goalscoring form has earned him a call up to the England Under-21 squad.

He added: "I've gone from the 20s to the 21s and I'm slowly working my way up. I know this is still just the beginning (of my career) and I've just got to keep my head down, feet on the ground, show my quality and see where the future takes me."

Norwich return to action on 21 October with a home game against Leeds United, followed by Middlesbrough's visit to Carrow Road three days later.
