Jonjo Shelvey has opened up on his Nottingham Forest exile. The 31-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Turkish club Rizespor, having fallen out with Forest manager Steve Cooper.
Shelvey only arrived at the City Ground on a two-and-a-half year contract from Newcastle United in January. But he played just eight times for the club in the Premier League before being frozen out.
He was not involved in the final weeks of last season as Forest secured survival in the Premier League. He then did not travel with his teammates for a pre-season training camp in Spain, before being sent out on loan to Rizespor.
Shelvey has spoken to our sister title Chronicle Live, saying it "hurt massively" to be told he wasn't going to play for Forest and to train alone on a local pitch in Ponteland. "My missus knew what kind of state my mental side was in," he said.
Shelvey said he "fell out of love" with the game, but he is now back "enjoying football" on loan at Caykur Rizespor and is even living at the club's training centre.
