Chelsea enjoyed a busy summer transfer window signing two of Brazil's biggest prospects in Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington - not to mention Andrey Santos too, who the Blues signed from Vasco da Gama in January. Despite arming Mauricio Pochettino with a wealth of exciting young players, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley look set to further bolster the club's ranks.
According to Brazilian publication PL Brasil, Chelsea are among several top clubs who are interested in Palmeiras star Luis Guilherme. The report states that the west Londoners face tough competition from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and West Ham for the 17-year-old midfielder's signature.
It's said that Guilherme's representatives have recently met with numerous clubs, with the Blues and the Hammers reportedly impressing in talks. The Brazilian outlet add that Chelsea and West Ham must present proposals for the teenager to Palmeiras before the Under-17 World Cup which kicks off at the start of next month - even though he was called up for the tournament.
Guilherme, who sees his contract at the Allianz Parque expire in 2025, has featured 15 times for Palmeiras in the Brazilian top-flight this year, predominantly enjoying cameo appearances off the bench. The teenager has mostly operated as an attacking midfielder, with sporadic opportunities on the right-wing.
If Chelsea were to secure his signature, a clear pathway into the first-team remains to be seen. Andrey Santos impressed in pre-season for the Blues but, following the arrival of another talented young midfielder in Lesley Ugochukwu, he was shipped off on loan to Nottingham Forest.
Angelo Gabriel, who also caught the eye during the summer, was granted a season-long loan spell at sister club Strasbourg and he's been an instant hit in the French top-flight. Then, as for Washington, the Blues failed to find him a loan with the young striker now reduced to minutes in the Development Squad.
With so many players at Pochettino's disposal, some may be starved of opportunities and questioning why they joined Chelsea in the first place. However, following the Blues' win over Burnley just before the international break, the 51-year-old insisted he can keep everybody happy.
"Always in football, it is about performance and players need to feel that they deserve to play," said Pochettino. "If we want to be consistent and fight for big things it's about being consistent every single game and that will be good with competition between them.
"We have a very talented squad but at the moment, for different reasons and circumstances, we cannot use all of the potential of the squad. Some bad luck against us in some situations but with time to be in the position we want to be.
"With the players fit, it will be massive competition and it will be good for the team to keep the level that we need to fight for big things."
