‘Pointless' Nottingham Forest transfer claim made after deadline day move

Nottingham Forest made the most 'pointless' transfer of the summer window with a late move for Divock Origi, according to pundit Don Hutchison.

The Reds completed a deadline-day move for the former Liverpool striker with the Belgium international joining the club on loan from Italian giants AC Milan in the final hours of the window. Origi is yet to start for Forest but has been used as a late substitute in all four of the club's Premier League games since arriving at the City Ground.

During his time at Liverpool, where he spent eight years, the striker earned a reputation for scoring important goals, despite a lack of regular game time. It's something that Forest will hope he can replicate this season.

The 28-year-old moved to Forest after struggling for goals with Milan in his first season with the club. He scored twice in 36 appearances for the club in 2022/23, meaning he fell down the pecking order for the Italian side.

When naming who he thinks has been the worst transfer of the summer window so far, Hutchison pointed out the striker's lack of starts for both Milan and Forest. He told ESPN FC: "I was loathe to use the word worst, but the pointless transfer I could have gone for was Divock Origi.

"I am not being unkind, but he didn't play at Milan. When I found out that Forest were going to buy him I thought, 'Well, he's not going to play there', and he hasn't. So, that was a bit of worst come pointless (transfer)"

After completing his move to Forest, Origi outlined how he felt an instant connection after having a chat with manager Steve Cooper. "It was good. You can see the work he's doing and the energy he's bringing. I could tell from afar before I spoke with him," he said.

"And speaking with him, he told me how he saw me, how he sees the team and he translated the values of the team very well. It was easy to understand. It was a brief conversation but we connected instantly and we both felt very good."
