ESPN pundit Dom Hutchinson has claimed that Nottingham Forest's signing of Divock Origi this summer was pointless.

The 28-year-old joined the Reds on a season-long loan with an option to buy from Serie A side AC Milan, with Origi signed as a backup to Taiwo Awoniyi.

Belgian Origi joined the Italian side on a free after his release from Liverpool in 2022 but only managed 10 starts in the league last campaign.

The striker has since made four appearances under Steve Cooper since his arrival, with all four coming off the substitutes bench.

"I was loathed with the word 'worst', but the pointless transfer I could have gone for was Divock Origi.

"I am not being unkind. But he didn't play at Milan. When I found out that Forest were going to buy him. I thought, well, he's not going to play there, and he hasn't.

"So, that was a bit of a pointless [transfer]."

Should the deal be successful they can make the deal permanent, but if he fails to deliver he can return back to Italy.

However, there is no way this signing should be criticised and labelled as a pointless signing.
