Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has responded to a statement released by Sweden football team's official account after two fans were shot dead ahead of their game against Belgium.
With the score at 1-1 at half-time, players didn't return for the second half of the game after hearing the news of the incident. The game was officially abandoned over an hour later, with fans safely evacuated from the stadium later that night.
The attack resulted in the death of two Swedish nationals on Monday evening, with the incident reported to have happened around 45 minutes ahead of kick-off and around three miles from the stadium. The attack is being treated as an act of terrorism, and the gunman has since been shot dead by police in Brussels.
The Swedish national team have now released a statement on their official social media accounts: "Swedish football has sadness - Sweden has sadness," it reads.
"Yesterday we tragically lost two blue-yellow supporters, on the spot in Brussels to do something that should be obvious - to support our Swedish national teams wearing the blue-yellow national team shirt. Our thoughts go out to all loved ones of the victims, who today are forced to wake up to an indescribable sadness.
"We are also thinking of all your supporters on site in Brussels. We know that you, like us, were afraid and worried. Yet you remained calm and followed the instructions that were called out from the speakers.
"We will never forget those who fell victims of this senseless attack. Take care of each other."
Elanga has reposted the message on his own Instagram story, along with a praying hand and blue and yellow heart emojis. The Forest man was named on the bench for the match.
