Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood was in action for New Zealand last night as they lost to Australia in West London. The All Whites lost 2-0 to the Socceroos at the Brentford Community Stadium.

It proved a pretty drab night for New Zealand in the game that took place on English shores. Australia took home the Soccer Ashes trophy once again and it's now 21 years since they were beaten by New Zealand.

Forest striker Wood left frustrated during international defeat It proved an unhappy outing for Forest striker Wood. He played for 81 minutes of this clash and a number of media outlets from New Zealand and Australia have given an appraisal of his performance.

The New Zealand Herald claimed that the team has been 'unable to utilise the threat of Wood', with the player enduring a rather frustrating night in terms of the service he was offered.

Australian outlet ABC also passed comment on Wood's performance. They claimed in the 29th minute that Wood had been 'kept very quiet', with the Socceroos managing to stifle any potential chances for him.

Wood will hope to keep his place this weekend The 31-year-old will now head back to Forest and he will be searching for Premier League goals this weekend. The Reds face Luton and Steve Cooper will want his team to get back to winning ways.

Wood has scored a single goal for Forest so far this season. His aim will be to prove that he is capable of stepping into the position that Taiwo Awoniyi has vacated following the injury he picked up.

The comments from last night say it all. Wood can be useful but only if he's given service. With Forest looking to play on the front foot more often, it's imperative they get the ball into Wood in order to utilise his best attributes.
