Explained: How Keylor Navas continues to have an impact at Nottingham Forest
Source:Nottinghampost

Midfielder Brandon Aguilera has explained how former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Keylor Navas left a "great legacy" at the City Ground.

Navas spent the second half of last season on loan with the Reds from PSG. He played a key role in helping Steve Cooper's side retain their Premier League status, making 17 appearances during his time on the banks of the Trent.

Aguilera is yet to make his first appearance in the league for Forest, but did make his debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley earlier this term. And the 20-year-old says fellow Costa Rican Navas provides a great reference point as he aims to make his own impact in the Garibaldi.

"Keylor Navas has a great legacy there; the fans, the teammates have great affection for him for everything he contributed last season," Aguilera told ESPN in a translated interview. "Since I arrived, my teammates talk to me about him, everything he contributed, a reference when he was there.

"Keylor Navas has left a great legacy wherever he has played. And at Nottingham Forest, it's no exception."

Aguilera signed for the Reds little more than 12 months ago but spent the 2022/23 campaign out on loan. He returned and impressed in pre-season, with Cooper saying he wanted to keep the youngster as part of his group - at least until January.

Aguilera didn't get the opportunity to play with Navas while the shot-stopper was at Forest. However, he has been picking up tips from the three-time Champions League winner about how to "meet expectations".

"The coach also gives me very positive comments about Keylor Navas," he said. "Last FIFA date (the September international break), I was able to talk a lot with Keylor Navas. He gave me advice that could help me to be well, to meet the expectations we have."
