Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is one of the managers being monitored by the FA as they look at potential successors to Gareth Southgate, according to reports.
The England boss has led the Three Lions to qualification for Euro 2024, but his current contract expires at the end of next year's tournament. The FA are said to be 'more than open' to offering the manager a new deal, but are also looking for a 'succession plan' should he decide to leave.
According to the website 90min, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has been 'talked about' by the organisation. He is however not the only name on the list, with Forest's Cooper and Man City boss Pep Guardiola also mentioned.
Cooper does have a long-standing relationship with the English FA, having previously worked with the organisation as the England U17s manager. He was the one to lead the team to the U17 World Cup win back in 2017, with a number of players now in the senior set-up.
Since leaving the role in 2019, Cooper took the manager job with Swansea City. He spent two seasons at the Liberty Stadium before leaving the club. He then took the job at Forest in September 2021.
In his time at the City Ground, he has led the Reds from the bottom of the Championship to promotion to the Premier League. The Welshmen then helped the team survive relegation in their first season back in the top flight last season.
Forest have had a positive start to the new Premier League season, winning two, drawing three and losing the remaining three of the opening eight games of the campaign. Forest are back in action under the manager on Saturday when they take on Luton Town at the City Ground.
