Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel will undergo "medical tests" upon his return to England. The full-back has been on international duty with Argentina, and started for his country as they beat Peru 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier overnight. He was withdrawn after just 34 minutes through injury.
Montiel felt pain after Lionel Messi scored the first of his two goals for the World Champions, and immediately signalled to the bench before being substituted. Now, according to El Intra, "medical tests are pending" for the Forest defender.
Those will take place on his return to Forest, and Steve Cooper will be hoping the defender is not sidelined for too long. Early reports from Argentina suggest it is a muscular problem, which would mean a quicker and easier recovery.
That is yet to be confirmed, however, and Montiel will be assessed by Forest ahead of the club's return to Premier League action over the weekend. Cooper will be hoping for positive news amid the current injury landscape.
Forest are back in action on Saturday afternoon (October 21) when they host Luton Town at the City Ground. That match will kick off at 3pm.
