Nottingham Forest will be impacted by a reform to the English football calendar that is reportedly set to take place.
Elite players across the country have voiced their concerns about increased schedules which, for the top clubs, will be exacerbated next season when the Champions League and Europa League group stages expand.
To ease those concerns, FA Cup replays will be scrapped for the third and fourth rounds, according to a report from BBC Sport. They also say the FA Cup fifth round will return to being a weekend slot, as it was until the 2019-20 season.
Another plan is to scrap the two-legged EFL Cup semi-finals. That would free up another week in the second half of the season, easing the pressure on the players involved. It may also incentivise teams to push harder in the competition, knowing there will not be an extra game to play.
Though the changes are planned, it is not known when they will be put into effect. The BBC note that a new Premier League TV contract will come into play from 2025-26, so those changes could line up with those.
Many top players will be hoping they come sooner. Neither Steve Cooper nor any of the Forest players have expressed overly strong concerns about the fixture schedules, though top stars like Man Utd's Raphael Varane have been vocal about the issue.
