Newcastle United were very busy indeed over the weekend.

With Premier League clubs needing to do at least some of their business by June 30 in order to adhere to the Profit and Sustainability rules deadline, things were reportedly quite panicked at Newcastle.

Indeed, a number of key players were being tipped to leave St James' Park as the club looked to avoid a potential ten-point penalty had they broken the rules, which do not allow teams to lose more than PS105m over a three-year accountancy period.

They eventually managed to keep star names in Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak (for now at least) but did have to give up two promising young players.

Yankuba Minteh has been tipped for the top after a successful loan spell with Feyenoord last season and has now joined Brighton.

Elliot Anderson, meanwhile, was someone Eddie Howe reportedly wanted to keep - with the player himself also keen to stay.

He, however, accepted a deal to join Nottingham Forest and that was concluded on Sunday night.

It is a shame to see Anderson depart. While last season proved frustrating due to injury, he has been talked up by the likes of Howe and it's never nice to see a local lad leave before he's really delivered on his potential.

"The 21-year-old, who came through United's Academy system, departs after making 55 senior appearances for his boyhood club, including 44 Premier League outings.

"Born in Whitley Bay, Ellior first joined the Magpies' youth setup aged eight. After becoming a regular in the club's Under-21 side, he made his senior debut in January 2021, coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup match at Arsenal.

"He moved on loan to Bristol Rovers for the second-half of the 2021-22 season and played a pivotal role in a successful promotion push before returning to Tyneside to rejoin the first-team squad.

"Last season, he made 21 Premier League appearances, starting on ten occasions.

"Everyone at Newcastle United thanks Elliot for his service to the club and extends their best wishes for the next chapter in his career."

Elliot Anderson could come back to haunt Newcastle Howe believes Anderson is getting both stronger and more likely to score goals.

Young players take time to develop and though there's no guarantee he will, Anderson certainly has a lot of hype around him.

Should he start to impress for Forest, it will be pretty gutting on Tyneside.

The PSR situation may have forced Newcastle's hand but that won't make it any easier to accept.
