USA media deliver very intriguing verdicts on Matt Turner after Copa America exit
Source:Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner was in action for the USMNT on Monday night as the nation faced a huge Copa America clash.

Uruguay were the opponents as the Stars and Stripes bid to reach the knockout stages of the tournament which they're hosting.

Sadly for Turner, things didn't go according to plan.

It's been a pretty drab six months for the Forest goalkeeper who has lost his City Ground place and has now been forced to face the music on the international stage.

Uruguay ran out 1-0 winners - in controversial style - and after the game, there were plenty of comments doing the rounds on the performance of Turner.

In the defeat to Panama during the USA's second Copa America match he was at fault for a goal and went off injured - replaced by former Forest man Ethan Horvath.

MORE FOREST STORIES

He did return to take his place against Uruguay but again didn't cover himself in glory.

The goal scored by Mathias Oliveira did look to be offside but he was allowed to score after Turner pushed a pretty tame effort into his path.

The Forest man did seemingly avoid too much criticism from the national media and some comments did the rounds.

CBS Sports said: "Rarely tested in the net. The one time that the ball did come to Matt Turner, he allowed a rebound that Uruguay scored from. You just have to get it out of the middle of the pitch."

ESPN claimed: "After suffering a leg injury against Panama, Turner's status was a huge story coming into the game. While his ball distribution was an issue at times, he was perfectly fine in terms of shot stopped and wasn't at fault on Uruguay's goal."

Finally, Goal claimed: "Didn't quite look himself due to injury and his distribution was a bit rough as a result. Could he have done better on the goal? Possibly, as his initial save fell right to Oliveira."

Forest have to offload Turner Looking at these comments, it's clear that Turner is simply never going to improve his distribution.

He cost Forest a number of goals with this below-par attribute of his last season and in modern football being able to pass has to be a given.

Turner is now 30 and sadly, it's unlikely that this element of his game is going to improve any further.

With Carlos Miguel set to sign for the club and Matz Sels proving very capable last season. it's vital that Forest look to get rid of Turner this summer.

Nothing against a player who is clearly a good character but signing him from Arsenal for PS10 million might just be the worst piece of business Forest have done since promotion.

He's well short of the required quality to keep goal for the club and hopefully, some offers will be forthcoming this summer.
