Nottingham Forest transfer window predicted as bidding war unfolds, surprises sprung and deals done
Source:Nottinghamshire Live

The first part of Nottingham Forest's transfer window came to a close a week ago with the passing of the accounting deadline.

Now for the second half of the summer. And it promises to be just as intriguing as the opening couple of weeks proved to be.

There is still a long way to go as clubs have until 11pm on August 30 to get their business done. Below, NottinghamshireLive predicts how the rest of the Reds' window will pan out.

Bidding war That Forest were not forced to sell off any of their prized assets in cut-price moves before the end of June in order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules is a big positive. The club can now assess and deal with any interest on their own terms.

If they do feel it would be best to cash-in on one of their star players, they are at least now in a position to play hard-ball, should they wish. They should be in a stronger position when it comes to handling any offers.

Just because the PSR deadline has been and gone, it doesn't mean the transfer talk has come to an end. Far from it - the window still has almost two months to run.

The likes of Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White still have plenty of admirers. It would come as no surprise if clubs do try their luck.

Chelsea are said to have already registered their interest in Murillo and the centre-back has a long list of teams eyeing him up. Bidding war anyone? It is certainly going to be interesting to see how the coming weeks play out; even better if the big names end up staying put.

Amazon Deadline day drama In an ideal world, the Reds would have all their business tied up well before the end of the window. Particularly where new signings are concerned, it helps to have them in the building as early as possible.

But the reality can often be somewhat different. It wouldn't be Forest without deadline day keeping fans on their toes and glued to their phones for updates.

This year perhaps won't be as busy as the final day of the summer window proved to be in 2023. Twelve months ago, seven players arrived in the final 24 hours of the window. It would take some going for a repeat of that scenario.

The Reds have sprung a few late surprises in the past, though. Whether it be chasing unexpected targets, signings coming out of nowhere or deals falling through for whatever reason.

A solid start has been made to the summer Trentside. If August 30 does prove to be relatively quiet, it would mean Forest have got the bulk of their work done in advance. There would surely be no complaints from fans if that is the case - even if everyone does secretly love a bit of deadline day drama.

Squad strengthened As mentioned above, the early signs have been good for the Reds' summer business. The goal is to end the window with strength in depth across all areas, a balanced squad and with a tight-knit group for Nuno Espirito Santo to work with.

Inroads have been made towards achieving that. But there is still work to be done.

A fair few outgoings are likely between now and the window closing. Nuno doesn't want a big dressing room and Forest still have some fringe players they will look to move on - either on loan or permanently. At least now, they can try to get the best possible deals for them instead of feeling forced into pushing things through to comply with PSR.

As for incomings, the general template has been set for what kind of targets the club will go for. Owner Evangelos Marinakis pretty much said in an interview earlier this year that recruiting young talent with the potential to increase in value would be key.

Teenager Eric da Silva Moreira falls into that category, while Elliot Anderson is 21. Ensuring there is a blend between youth and experience is important, though, so perhaps there will be some slightly older recruits further down the line to help with that.
