Joe Taylor says that the win against Grimsby Town on Tuesday night has "spurred" the U's on as they aim for a consecutive away victory in the space of four days when they travel to Accrington on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking about Colchester's upcoming clash with Stanley Joe said: "They're in a decent run of form themselves at the minute, so we needed that result [against Grimsby] the other night, we really did, and I think all the boys in there, we've proven that we can go and do it in a difficult place on a Tuesday night.

"It was miles away; it was a long journey. But we went there and executed the game plan perfectly and thankfully we got the result.

"But now we've got a tough game away again on Saturday. Obviously, they're in decent form but that result has obviously spurred us on and showed us that when we get things right we can do it."

The U's number twenty-five added that despite Matty Etherington only taking interim charge last week, the players know what's required of them.

Joe said: "Matty's brilliant. I've worked with Matty previously. We all know what we require off each other.

"Obviously, we haven't really met those standards off late, but on Tuesday night we showed what we can do and what we can give each other. Hopefully we can do that again going into Saturday."

Colchester's striker also ended his goalless period when he scored a brilliant goal against Grimsby Town.

He said: "It was about time. I went four, five games without a goal. It was obviously lovely to grab one so early.

"I felt a bit frustrated, I thought there was a bit more in the game for me. I felt like I could have grabbed a couple, but I just didn't really get that chance. But no, on a personal note I'm happy."
