Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has made himself look a fool as four stars respond to warning

Erik ten Hag claimed that Manchester United had defensive strategies in place ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray. But there was little proof in another calamitous defensive display as the Turkish champions walked away from Old Trafford with a historic 3-2 triumph.

Rasmus Hojlund's brace made it three goals in two Champions League games for United, firing the hosts ahead twice.

But the Red Devils' frailties were again at the other end of the pitch, pounced on by Wilfried Zaha, Kerem Akturkoglu and Mauro Icardi to inflict a sixth defeat in 10 games this season.

It marked Galatasaray's maiden success on English shores, their first Champions League triumph in five years, and the end of a 17-match winless run away from home in the competition.

United have shipped 17 goals across their opening 10 games, including four against Bayern Munich and three against Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ahead of the Galatasaray clash, Ten Hag insisted his side were ready to deal with the attacking threat Okan Buruk's side possessed.

"Absolutely [we have defensive strategies in place], we know that they are [dangerous]," Ten Hag explained in his pre-match press conference.

"But it's not only Zaha and Icardi. There is also Dries Mertens, if Hakim Ziyech is available [him too], if Tete [is, him too]. So they have more good players.

"Angelino can be very offensive and creative, [Kerem] Demirbay [can too], so it's about [the] team, and we have to defend that as a team. We will be aware we have to play our best to get the right result."

But Diogo Dalot failed to deal with a lofted through ball for Zaha's rapid first equaliser, getting bullied by the former Crystal Palace man in scenes far too familiar for the onlooking Stretford End.

Sofyan Amrabat enjoyed a positive first start in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win against Crystal Palace last Tuesday. But the Eagles targeted him in the rematch at the weekend, and he was caught out again against Galatasaray.

Amrabat deserves mercy, given he is no left-back. But the 27-year-old was caught out of position for the visitors' second leveller and was the man playing Icardi onside for the winner.

Victor Lindelof was woeful against Palace last time out, and he was similarly shaky in the Galatasaray defeat. He, too, was culpable for poor position for the second.

But the most concern of all surrounds Andre Onana, another of Ten Hag's signings. His PS47million arrival sparked excitement, given the vast improvement on David de Gea he promised.

Onana caused Casemiro's red card with a tragic blunder of a pass - a supposed strength - and his shot-stopping ability has also raised concerns.

All three goals were entirely preventable yet predictable as Ten Hag continued to be let down by the same defenders he bigged up before kick-off. His behind-the-scenes perspective will likely be a stark contrast.
