'That's unacceptable': Jermain Defoe angry with 29-year-old Forest star, says he should've been subbed off

Jermain Defoe has hammed Nottingham Forest star Matt Turner, claiming he'd have taken him off yesterday. The goalkeeper was out of sorts as the Reds lost 3-0 to Liverpool at Anfield.

The stopper has done okay since checking in from Arsenal. He cost the club around PS7 million and was handed the opportunity to establish himself as the number one by Steve Cooper.

The talking point of Turner's performance yesterday came in the second half. He came steaming out of his goal to try and clear a hopeful ball downfield but missed it and allowed Mohamed Salah to make it 3-0.

Defoe hammers Turner for Forest performance The 29-year-old certainly didn't cover himself in glory yesterday. After the game, Defoe was pretty incensed by what he'd seen from the Forest goalkeeper.

"For me, I think the ball cannot bounce. If you're going to come out you have to commit to it and you have to head it as a goalkeeper."

Turner is ever-present this season. He's done okay when called upon but he does have just a single clean sheet to his name and right now, Forest are conceding far too many goals.

Turner now in danger of losing his place With the very competent Odysseas Vlachodimos in reserve, Cooper has to consider a change. The Reds can't slide any further down the Premier League table and something has to give.

Nobody is condoning being dropped on the back of one or two mistakes. However, Turner has threatened this for weeks now and was fortunate not to concede against Brentford in comical circumstances.

Vlachodimos deserves a chance to show what he can do. Turner is capable as a number two waiting in the wings but it looks as though Forest are missing a trick by not playing the experienced Greece number one.
