In hindsight, both Everton and Nottingham Forest can take some degree of satisfaction in the way the transfer window turned out.
Hamstrung by their long-running financial issues, Everton boss Sean Dyche indicated in mid-August that The Toffees were 'unlikely' to complete any further signings during the final two weeks of the month.
Loan deals for both Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala and Chelsea striker Armando Broja, then, felt like big successes not even the most optimistic of Goodison Park matchgoers saw coming.
The stylish, press-resistant Mangala could form a fine partnership with this season's stand-out performer, Tim Iroegbunam, while the speedy, aggressive Broja will ease the goalscoring burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, did not get the striker they wanted.
Proposed deals for Eddie Nketiah, Yoane Wissa and Santiago Gimenez all failed, while Omar Marmoush opted to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt despite entering advanced talks with Nuno Espirito Santo's side last week.
The ever-underrated Chris Wood offset that disappointment to some extent, however, when taking his tally to two goals in three Premier League games against Wolves on Saturday.
The PS33 million-rated Egypt international performed a dramatic late U-turn in the final few hours of the window, convinced to stay put and rebuff Forest's advances by an adoring Frankfurt fanbase.

"Omar feels extremely comfortable and knows what he has in Eintracht. There was concrete interest from a club, but Omar has clearly chosen us," Krosche says, before making further comments to the club's official website.
"First and foremost, because Omar feels completely at home here. He knows what he has in us. After an outstanding first year like he had with us, interest from other clubs is normal.
"Through his performances, he has earned a certain status with us and with the fans. In the end, there was a specific inquiry, but Omar has clearly committed to us and will continue to hunt for goals for Eintracht."
Marmoush scored 17 goals last term and has begun the new campaign in similarly electrifying form.
Frankfurt team-mate Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe, meanwhile, was linked with a move to Everton via Fabrice Hawkins on X.
EXCL Everton have inquired about the conditions of the deal for Junior Dina Ebimbe.

The former Paris Saint-Germain starlet saw his future cast into further doubt when he was left out of the Frankfurt squad for the 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in late-August.
Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe never likely to join Everton Krosche insists that Dina Ebimbe's proposed move to Everton was a lot less likely than Marmoush's to Forest, however, while claiming that neither player nor club considered a parting of the ways despite recent criticisms of his performances on the training pitch.
"(There was) nothing!," Krosche explains. "If a player wants to take the next step, we listen to him. If the financial conditions meet our expectations, we are always open to a transfer. But, with Junior, we were far from wanting to sell him.
"He himself did not approach us either."
"I would like to clarify that we did not want to sell Junior," Krosche adds when pressed on the situation further by Fussball News. "We did not actively explore the market.
"I'm not worried because Junior is a good boy with a lot of individual quality. He will work his way out of this little slump."
