'I feel sorry for him': Journalist defends £30m Nottingham Forest star who has 'shown promise'
Source:Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have made an unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign with one win and two draws from the opening three Premier League games.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Wolves on Saturday and now the attention turns towards the international fixtures taking centre-stage.

Forest have 13 players on international duty hoping to represent their country - including Morgan Gibbs-White who received an England call-up.

There have been some really positive performers so far during the Premier League campaign and after a good transfer window, Forest look to be in good shape.

One player who has been in fine form is Ibrahim Sangare but bizarrely he's still getting mixed reviews from the fan base.

The Reds midfielder endured a rotten maiden campaign at Forest last season and an illness saw him lose weight - and his place in the team.

Now, Percy has delivered some sympathy to the doorstep of Sangare as he looks to stay grounded and prove his critics wrong.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: "I do feel sorry for him I must admit. I've got to put my hand up and say that I do feel very sorry for him. I know he's not played his best football yet but I think his performances this season so far have definitely shown promise.

"He's not going to get the headlines, he's not this N'Golo Kante player who will nick the ball off you and then run 30 yards with it, he's there to do a job. It's almost like the Brian Clough quote isn't it, get the ball off someone and play the ball to someone else, and that's not taking anything away from his passing but with Sangare there has to be a bit of patience with him.

"You've got to remember this virus he had last season and I think he lost 3kgs in weight. Some of the stuff on social media I see sometimes is a bit unfair."

Sangare needs patience and time at Forest The Ivorian is getting a bit of a raw deal at the moment. He's made the most tackles in the league yet somehow some still aren't convinced.

It's borderline ridiculous some of the criticism he continues to get. Sangare has been vastly improved and with more game time, he should continue to improve his performances.

At 26-years-old he still has time on his side and it would appear that some still expect him to do something that isn't part of his job role because he cost PS30 million.

Percy is dead right here. He's doing a job and some of the stick he gets on social media is just peculiar at this stage.

Thankfully, Nuno Espirito Santo doesn't pick his team based on social media comments and hopefully, Sangare can keep ramming the hate down the throats of supporters this season.
