Nottingham Forest are set to face West Ham United up next in the Premier League, and the referee has now been announced by the Premier League.

West Ham United managed to end Erik ten Hag's reign as Manchester United boss with a win at the London Stadium at the weekend.

However, things haven't always been rosy for the Hammers, as they suffered a 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the game before.

Nottingham Forest have been able to ensure consistency and are bang in form right now, having taken seven points from three since losing to Fulham.

Chris Wood has played a big part in that and has received plaudits from Martin O'Neill and others, so he could look to increase his tally against what can be a leaky defence.

However, there's been an interesting appointment for the West Ham clash, with the man in the middle already involved in some controversy this season.

Referee appointed for Nottingham Forest vs West Ham United Referee and VAR appointments are worryingly becoming more and more important as weeks go by, with too many unwanted talking points occurring.

Nottingham Forest have already encountered issues with VAR this season, specifically the Anthony Elanga incident that wasn't deemed a penalty and Murillo being punished against Fulham.

MORE FOREST STORIES

The Premier League have now announced their referee for the Nottingham Forest vs West Ham United game on Saturday, and it's Peter Bankes.

As mentioned, the referee will be Peter Bankes, with his assistants Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh alongside him. The fourth official will be Craig Pawson, with Alex Chilowicz on VAR and his assistant Constantine Hatzidakis.

VAR on the day was Peter Bankes, and he refused to intervene with the on-field decision of the red card, which was later deemed wrong.

Howard Webb addressed the situation (as per Sky Sports), and admitted that VAR should have spared Fernandes from a red card, acknowledging that an error had been made by Bankes.

Of course, it's different to him refereeing the game, but it's worrying that even with replays there are still wrong decisions being made by officials.
