Regardless, it was the performances of four Nottingham Forest players in particular that really caught the eye of the former Everton boss.

Speaking on the Football Daily podcast, he picked out Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood as the four players who have impressed him.

"Chris Wood has been fantastic and I'm really pleased. We've talked about a lack of old-fashioned centre forwards; Chris Wood has come through, a bit of an old-fashioned target man.

"He was with Dychey at Burnley for a long time, played well there and got some goals there as well. I think his spell at Forest is as good as he's been for a long time.

"But I think Gibbs-White is a good player; the two centre-backs are doing really well."

Elliot Anderson also deserves a mention Elliot Anderson joined Nottingham Forest for around PS35 million in the summer, and fans may have thought that was a steep price at the time.

However, his performances in the red shirt have already gone a long way to repaying that price, as the club's top assister so far this season.

Newcastle fans have already been wishing they still had him in their ranks at Newcastle, which wasn't possible due to PSR issues in the summer.

His Premier League display against Steve Cooper's Leicester City earlier on this season even earned Anderson a comparison to Jack Grealish, which is proof of how well he's playing.
