Pompey Academy were denied victory at Oxford in the Youth Alliance League after conceding a late equaliser.

Harrison Bradney had fired the hosts into the lead just before the break after Bastian Smith parried clear Tobias Brenan's initial effort.

But the Blues levelled midway through the second half, as Koby Mottoh was picked out by Spencer Spurway on the right and crossed for Eli Grant to convert at the back post.

And the turnaround was complete just moments later, when Mottoh (pictured) cut onto his left foot and found the top corner with a fine finish.

With just seconds remaining, however, Louis Griffiths netted in similar fashion to ensure the points were shared.

Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: "We were pretty poor with the ball for a lot of the game, although looked fairly solid at the back.

"It was just disappointing how often we gave away possession cheaply, especially after working hard to win it back.

"It would have been harsh if we'd come away with nothing, although I don't think we did enough to win the game, so it's probably a fair result in the end."

Sam Hudson "When we were able to play the ball forward quicker and with a bit more purpose, then we got some good 1v1 threats.

"Eli and Koby were bright sparks for us in the second half, but after taking the lead, we lost concentration in the dying seconds.

"It would have been harsh if we'd come away with nothing, although I don't think we did enough to win the game, so it's probably a fair result in the end.

"Neither side was able to dominate the ball well enough and the match really lacked quality throughout.

"On a positive note, we were delighted that Mitch Aston made his debut for the first team against Gillingham earlier in the week.

"He's worked really hard of late and so it was thoroughly deserved - it was great to see him take the challenge by the scruff of the note.

"It's obviously a nice moment for him, but also for the academy because it shows we're moving in the right direction."
