Preston North End and Burnley favourite sacked just weeks after winning managerial award

Preston North End and Burnley favourite Graham Alexander finds himself out of management again having been sacked by Milton Keynes Dons.

The number of managers out there who featured under David Moyes at PNE is pretty impressive.

Michael Appleton at Charlton Athletic, Jon Macken at Witton Albion, David Healy at Linfield and Stephen Robinson at St Mirren all fit the bill.

Michael Jackson is coaching at Burnley whilst Brian Barry-Murphy is in charge of Manchester City's Elite Development Squad.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner. Moyes has surely had an influence on some of those former PNE players, but another one has just lost his job.

Graham Alexander axed by Milton Keynes Dons Ask any PNE fan who was around for the early-to-mid 2000's and they will surely all agree that Graham Alexander is the definition of a club legend.

MORE PRESTON STORIES

To still hold that kind of reputation even after leaving PNE for Burnley speaks volumes to how much Alexander is loved.

'Grezza' racked up 400 appearances in his first spell at PNE before coming back for one last season in 2011, remarkably scoring with his final touch as a professional footballer - a moment which lives long in the memory for North End fans.

Alexander had a brief spell managing PNE alongside David Unsworth in that season, so it was no surprise to see him head into management elsewhere.

Alexander has been around the block over the years; a strong spell at Fleetwood Town, an impressive run at former club Scunthorpe United and a stint at Salford City which Gary Neville regretted cutting short.

Alexander then took Motherwell into the Europa Conference League qualifiers but left the club in July 2022, resulting in a year out of the game before taking over at Milton Keynes Dons in May of this year.

Alexander won four of his first five games, winning the League Two Manager of the Month award.

It has all gone wrong since then though with MK Dons failing to win their last eight games, suffering four defeats and four draws in that time.

Saturday's 2-2 draw with Barrow proved to be the end for Alexander with MK Dons announcing his rather abrupt departure.

The Dons have been struggling ever since reaching the League One playoffs in 2022 and this latest decision leaves them in the lurch again.

We can only hope to see Alexander and Lucketti thriving elsewhere, with other clubs surely interested in them after strong years elsewhere.
