Rangers had been linked with a move for Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe but the rumours have already been played down.

The Gers are in the market for a new manager having sacked Michael Beale on Sunday night.

Rangers have endured a disappointing start to the season and a 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen proved to be the final straw.

The hunt is on for Beale's successor and one rumour left PNE fans fearing the worst.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner. Ryan Lowe linked with Rangers move The Daily Record reported late on Monday night that Rangers were eyeing a move to land North End boss Ryan Lowe.

It was suggested that Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove had already made enquiries into finding out how much it would cost to prise Lowe away from Deepdale.

That will have been a concern for many PNE fans, especially after such an impressive start to the new Championship season.

North End have won six of the first nine games, so maybe interest in Lowe was inevitable - but this rumour is now being played down...

Reliable Rangers source Heart & Hand add that there is absolutely nothing in the rumours surrounding the Gers' interest in Lowe.

Rangers appear to be focusing on other names right now, such as Frank Lampard, Yokohama F. Marinos boss Kevin Muscat and AZ Alkmaar's Pascal Jansen.

Lowe is close friends with former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard but looks unlikely to follow in his fellow Liverpudlian's footsteps.

It looks like PNE can breathe a sigh of relief, with Lowe likely to stay at Deepdale for a while yet and full focus on facing Leicester City on Wednesday.
