Report: Sheffield United star could now miss the rest of the season injured along with Basham

To say Sheffield United are enduring a miserable time of things on the injury front would be an understatement at the moment.

The Blades' miserable league form has been compounded by injuries to a number of key players. It is a recurring theme within the squad over the last two seasons in all honesty, and seems to be getting worse.

And in bad news for the Blades, it looks like key defender and skipper John Egan could now miss almost all of the season.

John Egan could miss season with injury According to Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon account, Egan's injury will force United into the market for a new defender in the January window.

It's claimed the Irishman's achilles injury will rule him out for a long time and it could even see Egan miss the entire campaign.

With Chris Basham also set to be out for the rest of the season after his horror injury, it's yet another bitter blow for Paul Heckingbottom and his team.

Egan hasn't been in the best of form this season - much like his teammates - but to see him go down and now be ruled out for so long is a bitter blow.

No team wants to lose their captain and while it's a chance for the likes of Auston Trusty to step up, the Blades are now just one or two more injuries away from disaster.

The board will simply have to act in January. In fact, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Hecky looking at the free-agent market right now either, such is the extent of the club's problems.
