West Ham are eyeing a move for Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Arblaster in the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Hammers are expected to face competition for the 20-year-old "quality" midfielder from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Sheffield United have been relegated to the Championship, and several Premier League clubs could be looking to get some of their top talents. Arblaster is a highly-rated young midfielder and several English clubs have been keeping close tabs on him.

The youngster was made captain in the 4-2 loss against Manchester United last week and also captained against Newcastle at the weekend.

West Ham signed Kalvin Phillips on loan in January, but he has proved to be a massive flop. He is set to return to his parent club, which means a new midfielder is necessary for the Hammers. Arblaster is primarily a holding midfielder but he can also play in the defensive midfield role.

The youngster has a contract at Bramall Lane until 2028 and the Blades are determined to keep him next season.

Arblaster is a fantastic talent Chris Wilder handed the youngster his Premier League debut against Arsenal in March, and since then, he hasn't looked back. He has made eight starts in the Premier League and put in some eye-catching performances against Manchester United and Chelsea.

The holding midfielder has shown great quality on the ball, and clubs across the country have been impressed by his composure and work rate. Arblaster is a fantastic talent, and Sheffield are facing a battle to keep him.

Meanwhile, according to Florian Plettenberg, Ruben Amorin is still the leading candidate to take the West Ham job. Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui is also on the list while the Hammers are keeping an eye on Thomas Tuchel's situation. Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, and he is ready to return to the Premier League this summer.
