Aston Villa's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed his old side will move Cameron Archer on this summer - even if they trigger a buy-back clause bringing him back to the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old - who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs -suggested the 22-year-old is not yet at the Champions League level.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (30 April) that Archer is in line to return to Aston Villa on a cheaper deal than the fee Sheffield United paid to sign him.

The Blades paid PS18million for the striker last summer (2023), but Villa can now re-purchase him for PS14million following the Yorkshire side's relegation.

Archer has scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.

Aston Villa set to sell Archer again this summer, says Wyness Wyness insisted the forward has "great potential" and will thrive away from Villa Park next season.

He told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "It's a buy-back which was triggered by Sheffield United's relegation.

"I expect that was in Sheffield United's interest as much as it was in Villa's.

"Although he's coming back to Villa, I expect him to move on this summer.

"I had him when I was at the club, he's a very talented young striker with great potential. He'll do well with somebody.

"He'll do a great job for someone else and he's definitely a young talent."
