Under-fire Michael Beale deserves one thing and one thing only at Sunderland: opinion
Source:Rangersnews

As Michael Beale is appointed manager of Sunderland, you'll have seen plenty of reaction from across the Rangers media space as a result.

Many within the Ibrox support are not exactly on talking terms with the Londoner, whose ill-fated stint in Glasgow oversaw a Celtic treble and a stuttering start to this campaign.

But whilst the outlook in Govan is certainly brighter under Philippe Clement, I've got to say bitter soundbites, tweets, and comments aimed at Beale are unbecoming of Rangers supporters.

Whilst it never worked out for the ex-Steven Gerrard assistant in the top job in Glasgow, there are several responsible for the fact the inexperienced manager got the gig in the first place.

It's also hard to blame Michael Beale for taking the job - after all it is the biggest he will ever get as a manager - even if it is for his shortcomings in charge of Rangers.

Rangers fans frustrated with Michael Beale Rangers fan frustrations are generally three-pronged when it comes to Michael Beale.

Firstly, a failure to land a domestic cup last season is a huge black mark on his Ibrox record, with Celtic's fifth treble in seven seasons coming in the face of the Beale's inability to overcome our Old Firm rivals.

MORE RANGERS STORIESThis - from where I sit - is the most inexcusable element of Beale's tenure and is why the Rangers manager had to go.

The defeat against Celtic at Ibrox earlier in the season only cemented this feeling.

Second, Rangers failed to make the Champions League this season whilst the manager was in charge and we get the feeling some of this is a little unfair.

Not only was a newly formed Rangers squad always up against it to overcome PSV Eindhoven, but the talent-strewn Dutch side are running away with the Eredivisie title and have qualified for the Champions League knockouts.

What's more, Rangers haven't exactly done too badly on Europa League duties this season as a result.

Finally, Rangers' summer transfer business has been heavily scrutinised with Beale at the centre of a PS21m spend which has come in for much criticism.

Several of the most expensive signings in the club's new-look squad - Jose Cifuentes, Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, and Danilo - are yet to justify the outlay between a lack of form and injury.

But there are signs of recovery in this department and surely Rangers fans aren't naive enough not to understand that such a substantial squad change would require some bedding in.

The recruitment situation at the club is not all Michael Beale's doing of course - as the new Sunderland boss alluded to in his first interview at the Stadium of Light - with the club's signing structure overhauled since the appointment of Philippe Clement.

After the departure of Ross Wilson back in April, Beale was working without the luxury of a Sporting Director or Director of Recruitment.

New Sunderland boss deserves Ibrox well wishes Some Rangers fans might have a personal issue with Michael Beale who spoke a very good game but failed to deliver when it mattered in Glasgow.

Simon Jordan of TalkSPORT has a particular issue with the ex-Rangers manager and how he left QPR for Ibrox just months after the London club gave the coach his first chance in management.

There are also several murmurs of discontent from within the Rangers squad - not least from the outgoing Fashion Sakala - which suggest a change was well overdue.

But for those who're lambasting the former Rangers manager, who has only ever spoke glowingly about the club, it's something which doesn't sit right with me at all.

It's all a little too personal.

Yes, Michael Beale didn't work out and perhaps his shoulders were not quite broad enough to fill the famous Rangers manager's suit.

But there can be no doubt that the new Sunderland boss gave it his all at Ibrox and that the failings over Beale's year-long tenure were not just his own.

Many of the players who go on to achieve under the Belgian may well have been convinced to join the club due to Beale's passion for Rangers.

It's time to close the book on the Englishman's tumultuous 12 months in Glasgow with the outcome - given Beale is a talented young manager - probably the best for all involved.
