Leeds United signed off for the latest international break with another three points after Dan James and Joel Piroe's first-half goals were enough to give Daniel Farke's side a 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Farke made just one change to the side that saw off leaders Leicester City last time out, with club captain Liam Cooper returning to the starting line-up in place of the injured Pascal Struijk. The hosts would begin the game on the front foot, with Crysencio Summerville going close early.

And the home fans didn't have too long to wait for an opener, as Dan James was on hand to latch onto a misplaced pass on the edge of the Plymouth area and fire home after 21 minutes. The hosts' advantage was doubled 28 minutes when Summerville found Joel Piroe on the overlap, who slotted the ball under the onrushing goalkeeper.

Leeds United went into the break 2-0 up but saw Sam Byram limp off shortly after half-term, with the returning Junior Firpo replacing him as he made his first appearance of the season. Farke's men were made to pay for being guilty of failing to put chances away when Argyle pulled a goal back through Ben Waine with six minutes left to set up a nervy finish.

The hosts would hold on though and the Elland Road faithful was also bouyed by the news that Leeds loanee Sam Greenwood's late free-kick for Middlesbrough was enough to hand leaders Leicester a second consecutive defeat, meaning Leeds have cut the lead at the top fo the table to just eight points.
