Overseas West Brom reunion and the planned return after five-year hiatus

It's Nabi's debut for Doxa, after he landed in Cyprus following a four-year spell in Greece which ended in the summer.

He plays 80 minutes.

Berahino's AEL claim a 1-0 win, but the Burundian is an unused substitute.

Indeed, he's only made four substitute appearances so far this term.

Former Albion academy manager Mark Harrison once reasoned that Nabi was as talented in the final third as Berahino, who made waves in the Premier League and was wanted, once upon a time, by Tottenham Hotspur.

Yet their careers have taken dramatically different paths in the last five years - but the two find themselves together in Cyprus, nowadays.

There are many players, too, back in the UK who accompanied Nabi and Berahino through the Albion ranks, and Nabi finds ways to keep in touch with the likes of Romaine Sawyers and Kemar Roofe.

"Saido is playing in Cyprus now," Nabi told BirminghamLive.

"We played against them in the first game of the season.

He lives about an hour away in Limassol, I'm in the capital, in Nicosia.

We're in contact more through phones.

Kemar, Romaine, we keep in contact.

Then there are lots of lads who don't play anymore who I keep in contact with.

"A lot of us do keep in contact.

Social media is fantastic because if someone now posts something, it's like a direct line to start a conversation.

A lot of us grew up from eight or nine years old, together, so it's gone past being mates - it's like a family.

When you're coming up through the ranks, you see them more than you see your own family.

"We were tight knit at West Brom.

I think in terms of coaching staff and back-room staff at West Brom, I think pretty much everybody has changed.

Darren Moore has gone into coaching, and he's got Jimmy [Shan] and Jamie Smith on his staff.

Everyone else is at Villa, I think!"Nabi pitched up in Greece after his time in the UK came to an end; he had spells with Peterborough United and Dundee after leaving Albion, but intends to return to the EFL in the near future, and has revealed he had opportunities to this summer.

"I was in Greece for four years, and it came down to whether I signed a contract in the same place or did I try something different," Nabi said.

"It's not much different, to Cyprus from Greece, but it was just a change.

I had a few chances to come back to England in the summer, with teams in the EFL, but negotiations can take a while and in that moment I had something 100% [in Cyprus].

"It's something in the back of my mind, I'd love to come back to England.

I always watch it, my mates are playing in the leagues, and I believe I can play there and make an impact.

I'd love to come back and play at home.

I know a lot of lads in the leagues are always asking me 'why don't you come back?' Do you know what? I would, to be honest.

"When I was in Scotland, or back home, I would think about how freezing it is and how I'd love to play in a country where it's boiling.

Now I've had it for five years, I miss playing in the rain and when it's freezing and you can't feel your forehead, and the pitches are soaking and muddy - you miss it.

"Adil is with youngest brother Rahis in Cyprus.

The Pakistan international plays for second tier side Digenis Akritas Morphou, while middle brother of the three Samir is still in England and has hung up his boots with an intention to remain in football.

"Samir is still in England, he's gone onto the coaching side," Adil added.

"He's stopped playing and he's doing UEFA B.

He's more or less going to complete that in the next couple of months.

Hopefully he'll be in an elite academy, one of the Premier League teams - he's another one who has a huge amount of experience, playing elite football and having come up all the way through, so I think he wants to crack on with that.

He enjoys that side of it, and he leaves the football side of it to me and Rahis!"Who is the best player to have emerged from the Albion academy in your opinion?.
