View: West Brom may alter transfer stance after Corberan update this week
Source:Westbromnews

Carlos Corberan expects Daryl Dike to be back involved for West Brom by the time the January transfer window opens.

That is interesting timing to say the least, as it may well be that there is fresh interest from elsewhere in fellow forward Thomas-Asante at that point.

Corberan was quoted by the Express & Star [16 October] this week as saying: "He will be one of the new players for January; in the January market we will add to the squad.

" BTA was wanted by Albion's Championship rivals in the summer - Stoke City among them - but the Baggies were never going to sell.

Even when a PS2million bid was tabled by Stoke late in the window [Birmingham Mail], West Brom refused to budge despite their financial issues.

That was down to the fact that they had no other recognised striker ready to fill the void, and no time to bring in a replacement for a similar cost.

However, with Dike due back in a couple of months' time, any fresh offers for Thomas-Asante may well be considered.

If the takeover picture remains unclear come the January window, Albion may well have to bring in some more funds.

In an ideal world, Corberan will be able to rotate between Thomas-Asante and Dike, as he did to good effect before the latter's long-term lay-off.

But West Brom are not exactly living in an ideal world right now, and BTA seems like the best bet to raise some funds in the short term.

This is of course all dependent on Dike suffering no further setbacks and then hitting the ground running upon his return to action.

The United States international is no doubt eager to make up for some lost time, and his imminent return at least offers Corberan further options up top.

If that means Dike and Thomas-Asante potentially linking up together in the second half of the season, great.

But do not be surprised if the club's not-for-sale stance on Thomas-Asante shifts once Dike is back up to speed.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies may get another chance to land one of Corberan's targets following an update provided by Fabrizio Romano.
