‘I felt’: Mikey Johnston explains why he decided to leave Celtic for West Brom this summer
Source:Celtic News,

Mikey Johnston has explained why he chose to leave Celtic and joined West Bromwich Albion this summer.

The Republic of Ireland winger was in demand this summer after his excellent spell on loan at The Hawthorns last season.

Sheffield United thought they had their man after a deal was agreed with Johnston but after a late move by West Brom, there was really only going to be one winner.

As soon as The Baggies made their offer, Johnston said goodbye to his Celtic teammates and headed back to the Championship club where he was adored by the West Brom fans.

Johnston has his eye on the Premier League Now that Mikey Johnston's move from Celtic is permanent, the new West Brom winger has shared why he swapped Glasgow for the Midlands.

Johnston told Birmingham Live, "I watched the QPR and Leeds games, I watch a lot of football and wanted to see how we were getting on to start the season.

"I've kept in contact with everyone and kept watching.

I felt this was the right option, I felt we've got a lot of strength and a big chance to get to the Premier League, hopefully, we can do that.

"I think we've got a strong core, leaders in the dressing room, match-winners and I think we've got a good chance.

MORE CELTIC STORIES"Because of the time between me coming in and my first game, I'm just so anxious to get going.

It's been a great start but I'm only just in the door, nothing's given to you so I've got to go and get in the team.

"The aim was to try to get us to the Premier League, we fell a bit short but I feel like we've got a right good chance of going at it this year.

"Johnston's quality will shine through We've said consistently on 67 Hail Hail that we've believed Johnston was a quality player.

And whilst he is of an international level, it just wasn't working out at Celtic.

When playing for West Brom, Johnston just seemed to let himself off his own leash and he performed excellently down south.

For the sake of his personal and international career, 67 Hail Hail wishes Johnston the best of luck for his future and genuinely hopes to see him strut his stuff in England's top flight sooner rather than later.
