“No interest” | Hammers dealt blow in hunt for centre-back
Source:Thewesthamway

West Ham's hopes of getting Harry Maguire for a bargain has reportedly been squashed.

It was not long ago that Manchester United's Harry Maguire was the biggest laughing stock in football. The hate was without a doubt unjustified but to come back as strongly as he has only goes to show what a remarkable individual he is.

West Ham reportedly came close to signing the centre-back for PS30 million last Summer, but the player was not said to be open to the move. Given that he still has not been playing consistently (despite his improved form) the Hammers were said to be confident that they could get him for around PS15 million and that they could convince him to join at the end of the season,

Unfortunately, GIVEMESPORT have reported that Manchester United have no interest in selling their former captain, and it would take a much greater bid in order to secure his services. Whether that means more than the PS30 million they offered last year is unknown but, for a 31-year-old, anything more than that is extortionate.

That said, West Ham need that style of centre-back, one that can give the defence more presence and a more solid feel - a Craig Dawson style defender. Max Kilman is another option for the Irons as well as Tosin Adarabioyo.

Realistically, there are not many positions West Ham need to improve upon in their starting XI. However, a central defender is an absolute necessity but, in terms of value for money, there simply has to be better options than a player who has 2 or 3 years left in him.
