Kalvin Phillips has opened the door to more "destructive" comments following his gesture to some fans after the West Ham game against Newcastle United, according to Simon Jordan.

Writing on page 71 of the Daily Mail's print edition on Thursday (4 April), the pundit said the England international may not feel the criticism he received was delivered fairly as he got on the team bus after the 4-3 defeat against the Magpies.

But Jordan added that life is "unfair" as he conceded that the 28-year-old midfielder isn't making any headway with the Hammers after making his loan move from Manchester City, having remained on the bench in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Tuesday (2 April).

"He may not feel the criticism was delivered in the fairest way but life is unfair," said Jordan. "All he achieved was to open the door to more destructive comments.

"Phillips is not making any headway at West Ham, he's not in the England squad after being a peripheral figure at Manchester City and now he's losing his cool and biting back at strangers who had a pop for a poor performance."

Kalvin Phillips must dig deep to rediscover form at West Ham It's been a truly awful loan spell for Phillips so far and there is no indication that it's going to get any better after his performance against Newcastle.

While he was wrong to stick his finger up at the fans after the game, you do have to question why they were there to just hurl abuse at the players anyway.

After what was a crushing defeat, most of us in that away end just wanted to get away from St James' Park as quickly as possible.

West Ham Kalvin Phillips Kalvin Phillips has had a miserable time at West Ham The Englishman is really going to have to dig deep to try and rediscover the form he previously showed for Leeds United and on numerous occasions for his country.

It seems as though chances may now be at a premium for the midfielder over the next few weeks, but given that we are thin on the ground, he will probably have to play again at some point.
