Paqueta recall development emerges amid West Ham star allegations - report

West Ham ace Lucas Paqueta is being lined up for a recall to the Brazil national team, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported on page 69 on Sunday (22 October) that the 26-year-old remains suspended by Brazil due to the FA's ongoing investigation into him for alleged gambling breaches, but that he is in line to be selected for next month's international fixtures.

It said the midfielder "strongly denies any wrongdoing" and that he has been "fully cooperative" with the investigation so far.

It comes as no real surprise to hear that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is now looking to make a U-turn on its decision to suspend Paqueta from playing for the national team.

The midfielder has been in superb form for West Ham this season and Brazil failed to win either of their games during the most recent international break, while Neymar suffered a nasty-looking knee injury.

Brazilian newspaper Globo reported on Thursday (19 October) that national team manager Fernando Diniz wants to call up the midfielder for the next set of internationals in November and that he is set to "deal with the matter" with CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues.

With Paqueta adamant that he hasn't done anything wrong and fully cooperating with the FA's investigation, it was harsh for him to be suspended in the first place as he has only been alleged to have breached the gambling rules.

It seems likely that he will receive a call-up next month, but the main thing is that he is still eligible to play for us and he is continuing to perform well despite the ongoing issues surrounding him.

In other West Ham news, a club's January stance on a player the Hammers wanted to sign has emerged.
