Coventry City owner Doug King has confirmed that the club have opened contract talks with Sky Blues attacking midfielder Callum O'Hare.

O'Hare is in the final year of his current deal so, as things stand, he will be out of contract next summer and able to leave Coventry as a free agent unless he commits to fresh terms. The 25-year-old former Aston Villa prospect is currently closing in on a return to fitness following a serious knee injury which has kept him out of action since the end of last year.

The Sky Blues sold star players Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer during the summer transfer window, to Sporting CP in Portugal and Sheffield United respectively. Supporters are now waiting to see what the future hold for popular figure O'Hare.

King was asked about the situation at a fans' forum - also attended by Coventry manager Mark Robins - hosted by BBC Radio CWR on Monday evening. "Obviously when I came in, I think Burnley were hovering around and then he (O'Hare) had his terrible injury," said King.

"We've obviously been busy and he's taken a while to come back. We know where he is in his contract situation and clearly we really rate him - and we've opened discussions and we'll see how that all unfolds.

"It's just one of those things. It seemed to me that when I came in, a lot of players were in an end of contract, like, quite short contracts, so it made it quite difficult to negotiate quite easily, you know, with Viktor and with Gus. Callum is in a similar sort of position and obviously we were set back with his injury.

"I'm just hoping he comes back really strong because he has worked so hard and he's been totally professional, and he'll add a huge thing for us. When Mark picks him, I'll be very excited."
