Sue Smith was full of praise for Jarrod Bowen as the West Ham winger slotted a third goal past Ipswich Town on Saturday (5 October).

Julen Lopetegui's side rushed into a 1-0 lead in the first minute, with Bowen also grabbing the assist, though the Hammers were pegged back by Liam Delap at the London Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus poked home to regain the Hammers' one-goal advantage before Bowen swept home just four minutes into the second half as the London side claimed a 4-1 win.

Speaking live via Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday [5 October, 4:09pm], Smith said: "It's Jarrod Bowen. Ipswich started the second half quite well and got themselves into decent positions, but they couldn't find the cross. This all comes from Antonio's pressing - it's really good from him.

"It's a big touch out of his feet from Muric, Antonio presses and wins the ball back, and it falls to Bowen on the right, who just cuts in on his left foot, into that far corner and it's a brilliant finish from him."

Jarrod Bowen stars as West Ham United beat Ipswich Town It has been a difficult start to the season for the 27-year-old, even with a goal and an assist in his first six league appearances.

Of course, it has been a struggle for most of Lopetegui's squad, with the Hammers finding life difficult under the new manager so far, having lost against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea.

The manager has come under plenty of pressure for the early performances and results, even despite the calibre of opponents, and a win against newly promoted Ipswich was vital.

The 27-year-old notched 16 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season so it comes as no real surprise to see him back in form, and Lopetegui will be hoping this is just a sign of things to come.
