42-year-old Englishman is on West Ham owners' radar to replace David Moyes

If David Moyes is sacked, the West Ham United owners allegedly have a really exciting young manager lined up to replace him.

West Ham boss David Moyes eased the mounting pressure on his shoulders by guiding his side to back-to-back wins against Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest respectively over the past week, but that doesn't mean that he's immune from being sacked.

The Scot has received heavy criticism from some sections of the Hammers fanbase this season, and recent reports suggested that he was actually dangerously close to losing his job.

Michael Carrick is someone who has been linked with the West Ham manager's job, and he was extremely coy when pressed for a comment on those rumours earlier this year.

The 42-year-old has worked absolute wonders at Middlesbrough, and despite a poor start to this season, he has them back in contention for the play-off spots after a fine recent run of form.

The former Hammers midfielder deploys a really attractive and expansive brand of possession-based football. I think he'd be a great replacement for Moyes at some point in the future, but is he even on the West Ham radar?

The football journalist explained:

"My expectation would be that they look to be forward-thinking. Unless West Ham suddenly find themselves in crisis and need crisis management, that's the only time I could see them going for somebody with huge experience as their next appointment. I would expect them though to go for somebody who's younger, more forward-thinking and is more in tune with the way that the game is heading in the next 10 years, rather than how it's been for the last 10 years. That's what I would be thinking. Carrick is a really interesting one, but we have to see which direction his career goes in right now. But he's definitely somebody who is on West Ham's radar."

The Boro boss still has unfinished business at the Riverside, but it wouldn't surprise me one little bit if he replaced Moyes at the London Stadium before the start of next season.

Carrick is one of the most exciting young managers in the country, and his footballing style is certainly more befitting of the modern game.

If David Moyes is sacked before the start of the 2024/25 season, it will be vital for the Hammers board to bring in an innovative young coach who will really be able to take this talented squad of players to the next level.

And I really feel like Carrick could be the man for the job.
