Darren Bent has reacted to Julen Lopetegui's "bonkers" managerial record after reports the former Wolves coach is close to replacing David Moyes at West Ham.

According to The Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg [3 May], the Hammers are prepared to part ways with Moyes at the end of the season and could strike a deal with Lopetegui as early as next week.

The current manager has been under considerable pressure this season, especially for his defensive style of play, despite lifting the Europa Conference League title last season.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (3 May, 4:09pm), Bent reacted to the Lopetegui update, stating: "I like Lopetegui. His record in terms of games is [impressive].

"With his overall record, he has managed 397 games, winning 233 and only losing 79. That is bonkers.

"At this moment in time, I think West Ham fans will take him. Anyone with fresh ideas. No disrespect to David Moyes because he's been really successful, took that club to a suitable level, won a trophy, and three seasons in Europe, but West Ham fans are ready for new ideas.

"You look at his CV, doing well at Wolves, Real Madrid and Spain. Yeah, give me some of that. I don't think any manager will take them to the top four. Even if West Ham finish in seventh, but the football is free-flowing and attractive, the fans will love that."

Could Julen Lopetegui replace David Moyes as West Ham United manager? Considering Lopetegui's CV, boasting spells with the Spain national team, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Wolves, it seems like a deal that could work well at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard has prior knowledge of the Premier League, thanks to his 10-month spell with Wolves. And although that ended on a sour note, it would certainly help him adapt to life in London.

Of course, Moyes' contributions to the club should not be overlooked, having led West Ham to their first European trophy in decades, but football is a results-based sport.

West Ham United-linked Julen Lopetegui Julen Lopetegui could replace David Moyes as West Ham manager This must be considered when searching for a new manager because the Hammers have made poor managerial choices in the past that have come back to haunt them.

Manuel Pellegrini is certainly an example of that. However, his tenure saw Moyes return to the club as manager, which definitely does not look like a bad decision after his second spell in charge.
