Gary O'Neil will be secretly buzzing if new report about £21m Wolves player rings true - opinion

Gary O'Neil will have been racking his brains over the past couple of weeks about how to turn things around at Wolves.

It has been an awful start so far, as most expected it would be.

The fixtures list was very unkind to Wolves, who have been unable to spring any surprises.

That said, Wolves have been in promising positions in some games, such as against Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Next up for Wolves is Manchester City at Molineux, and the manager will be hoping that his international players will return in decent condition.

And it seems Gary O'Neil may have received a boost today regarding one of his players.

Andre played 45 minutes for Brazil last week in their first game of the international break against Chile.

But he will not be starting in Brasilia tonight, which is news that will likely be welcomed by O'Neil.

Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United is set to take his place in the midfield.

MORE WOLVES STORIESGlobo are also expecting that Joao Gomes will also not be starting the game.

He got no minutes against Chile last week, which perhaps makes Dorival Junior more likely to use him than Andre tonight.

As much as O'Neil would love for his players to shine for their countries right now, he obviously needs them all in peak condition for Wolves.

So he'll probably be secretly buzzing to see Andre on the bench if Globo's report rings true.

Andre has looked a steal for Wolves at PS21m There remain some question marks over just how much Wolves actually needed to sign Andre in the summer.

Especially given the clear need for a centre-back after Max Kilman was sold.

But there is no denying he's looked a class act so far for the Old Gold.

Andre currently has the highest pass completion rate in the Premier League, and he was named Wolves' Player of the Month for September.

Andre for Wolves in 2024/25 Appearances - 5 Minutes played - 318 Pass completion rate - 94.

9% Shot accuracy - 50% Percentage of dribblers tackled - 83.

3% Take-on success - 100% Yellow/red cards - 2/0 Stats via fbref He's settled quickly, and appears to be top of the pecking order for the midfielders right now.

Realistically, unless Wolves have an absolutely top second half of the season and end up finishing around mid-table, there is a very good chance Andre will leave the club next summer.

He was a wanted man in the last window and there was some surprise that Wanderers managed to beat the competition to get him for around PS21 million.

Wolves fans should not get too attached to Andre, because the likelihood is that he'll probably only stay for one season, just as Matheus Nunes did.
