Welcomed by Commander of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar ...El Merreikh squad arrived in Benghazi, capital of East Libya, on Sunday for a match within the African Champions League tournament.

El Merreikh football team arrived in Benghazi city from Tunisia where it had played a match with Al Taraji. The team will clash with Egypt's Zamalik team in the second round of CAF Champions League tournament slated for Friday February 17.

The Team accorded warm reception by senior representatives of East Libyan authorities and Sudanese community.

El Merreikh FC has opted to play it's matches in the group stage of the African Champions League tournament (2022-2023) in Benghazi after failing to prepare it's playground at the club building in Omdurman according to the FIFA standards.

Representative of the Libyan Army's General Command Idris Alhumami said that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has directed that every possible measure be taken to make easy El Merreikh stay in the city.
