Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell admits run isn't good enough, with one point in seven games

Stuart Kettlewell says taking a point from seven Premiership games isn't enough for a club the size of Motherwell, and they're working "exceptionally hard" to turn the corner.

The Steelmen were left empty-handed again as Innes Cameron's 49th-minute strike earned Kilmarnock all three points at Rugby Park, following the 4-2 defeat at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Kettlewell knows they need a win from somewhere, as they prepare for the trip to St Johnstone on Tuesday night.

The frustrated Motherwell boss said: "If you start to piece them together in my tenture, if you divide up some of the losses with all the wins that have been in there, and the points amassed, it potentially doesn't look good.

"But you understand the job and the role, and everybody then points to the fact that we've got one point in seven games.

"It's not good enough for a club like Motherwell. I understand that, I get that, and I harbour that blame, frustration and anger that will undoubtedly come off the back of it.

"But I can assure everybody that we're working exceptionally hard to try and turn that corner, try to come up with different solutions, trying to tweak and change things where we possibly can.

"I can assure you that we're putting in the hours to try and see if we can rectify that.

They're going full out to try and see if they can turn a corner for us or try and see if we can get some points on the board."

Motherwell went with three up front, as Mika Biereth made his first start of the season, working beside Theo Bair and Conor Wilkinson, but Kettlewell admits it didn't work.

"It didn't," he said. "We were trying to show our intent by putting three strikers up the park, and we were trying to take the game to Kilmarnock, essentially.

"We probably felt at times that we had to miss out certain areas of the pitch and get it into a forward area where we felt we would carry a threat.

"I think sometimes when you come here, without being disrespectful, that's sometimes what the game brings.

"I don't think at times you can trust the bounce of the ball, or that pass, the same way that you can on a grass pitch.

"Kilmarnock started to pose us a threat with their wide players and the wee bit of pace they've got in that attack.

"It's of great frustration that there's another moment when I think it's Matty Kennedy who chops in and pretty much gets a free shot away, it's spilled inside the penalty box and our reactions aren't as good a Kilmarnock's are.

"That's just what the game comes down to, and it's not to try and pacify anybody - ultimately that's what the game did come down to."
