Williamson: A goal shy of a perfect away performance

Mike Williamson felt his MK Dons side were a goal shy of a perfect away performance at Rodney Parade.

Williamson's men were held to a goalless draw by Newport County, despite a dominant display in South Wales.

The Dons had 67% of the possession and threatened with five shots on target but were unable to find a way past their opponents.

"There were plenty of chances, and if any one of them goes in it makes for the perfect away performance, but it wasn't to be," the MK Dons Head Coach said in his post-match press conference.

"We put a real shift in, and the quality was there when we played through. We just didn't get the finish.

"In the second-half, especially, we were building momentum, and I sensed it was going to come. The boys felt their control of the game, and we have to keep developing that.

"We were desperate to win it, desperate to penetrate the backline at every opportunity, it was just one of those days. In previous games, we've scored harder chances!

"All we can do is work on the intention on how we get into those areas, and with the quality we've got in the squad, more often than not we finish those chances.

He added: "Any point away is a good point so we take the point and move on.

"Off the back of that performance, and now the space we've got to train, I'm looking forward to our next game."

MK Dons turn their focus to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and their final Southern Group F fixture with Northampton Town at Stadium MK on Tuesday 21 November.
