Athletic Club are making moves this summer to try to push forward and gain a place in the top 4 in La Liga next season and earn a coveted place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2015.
A big part of their approach to doing this consists of tying down their top performers to prevent them from leaving, and this is just what they have done with their announcement on Sunday afternoon.
As per the club's socials, they have announced that 29-year-old winger Alex Berenguer has signed a three-year contract renewal at the Bilbao club.
This deal is set to see Berenguer stay in Bilbao until 2027, which could result in him staying at the club for eight seasons total.
This seems a fitting repayment for the man that scored the penalty which saw them win the Copa del Rey, their first major trophy for 30 years.
With 41 appearances last season, Berenguer is still at the peak of his powers for Athletic Club, and he looks set to be a major contributor for the club when La Liga starts back up in August.
For now, he will have his sights set on enjoying the rest of his summer break and getting ready for pre-season when it begins later this month.
