Source:GAME OF

THERE seems to have been a lot of sending-offs this weekend as the red card suddenly became a fashion accessory. Arsenal have developed a penchant for playing with 10 men and this proved very costly as they went down 2-0 at Bournemouth after William Saliba had been dismissed in the first half. The Cherries played well, scoring through Ryan Christie in the 70th minute and nine minutes later when Justin Kluivert netted from the penalty spot. Bournemouth's victory has to be regarded as result of the week. Liverpool went top of the table again when they beat Chelsea 2-1, while Manchester City scraped a 2-1 win at Wolves with a controversial last-gasp goal from John Stones. City are still the only unbeaten side in the Premier League. Arsenal and Aston Villa are behind the front two with 17 points each. Villa won 3-1 against Fulham, with both sides having a man sent off. Leicester City came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Southampton, while Everton secured a 2-0 victory at Ipswich Town. The Erik ten Hag barometer swung his way this week as Manchester United won 2-1 against Brentford, but doubtless it will move in the opposite direction next week.

Serie A: Conte leads the way

NAPOLI maintained top spot with a 1-0 win at Empoli, the decisive goal coming from the penalty spot from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 63rd minute. Manager Antonio Conte is tempering expectation after his side's good start to the season: "let's enjoy what we are doing without getting excited", he told the media. Inter kept up the pace with a 1-0 victory at Roma with Lautaro Martinez scoring the winner on the hour. AC Milan were also successful, beating Udinese 1-0 despite playing over an hour with 10 men. Samuel Chukwueze was the matchwinner with a first half goal. Juventus, the only unbeaten side in Serie A, had to rely on a late own goals by Mario Gila for three points against Lazio. Struggling Lecce were thrashed 6-0 at home by Fiorentina, who are currently in fifth place.

La Liga: Luka proves there's life approaching 40

LUKA Modric (39) became the oldest-ever Real Madrid player when he went on as substitute for Francisco Valverde in the 63rd minute against Celta Vigo. Real won 2-1 with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius. Barcelona are three points ahead of Real at the top of the table after their 5-1 victory against Sevilla. Robert Lewandowski and Pablo Torre scored two apiece and Pedri was also on the scoresheet. Lewandowski has now scored 14 goals in 12 games. Atletico Madrid won 3-1 against Leganes, with two goals from Alexander Sorloth. Atletico are still unbeaten after 10 games this season. Bilbao continued their good start by beating Espanyol 4-1 at San Mames with Inaki Williams scoring two.

Bayern are top but RB Leipzig also have 17 points. They won 2-0 at Mainz with goals from Xavi Simons and Willi Orban in the first half. Champions Leverkusen beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at the BayArena, coming from behind once more to win. Omar Marmoush gave Frankfurt a 16th minute lead from the penalty spot, but Robert Andrich equalised on 25. The winner came from Victor Boniface with 20 minutes to go. He had earlier missed a penalty. Dortmund beat St. Pauli 2-1 with Serhou Guirassy scoring the winner in the 83rd minute.

Ligue 1: Marseille go nap

OLYMPIQUE Marseille netted five away from home for the second time this season as they thrashed Montpellier 5-0. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, on loan from Tottenham, scored his first goal for OM and Mason Greenwood was on target again for his sixth of the league campaign. Monaco, who went into the weekend as league leaders, were held 0-0 at home by Lille. Paris Saint-Germain moved to the top with a 4-2 win against a lively Strasbourg side. PSG's 18 year-old forward, Senny Mayulu, scored his first for the club and further goals came from Bradley Barcolo, Mario Asensio and Kang-in Lee. Lyon were another team in good form on their travels, they won 4-0 at Le Havre.

And elsewhere...

CELTIC were held 2-2 at home by Aberdeen, who remain level on points with the reigning Scottish champions. Celtic threw away a two-goal half-time lead in front of almost 59,000 people. Rangers, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 at Kilmarnock. In Holland, PSV, Feyenoord and Ajax all won. PSV beat 10-man AZ Alkmaar 2-1with both goals coming in the first half, while Feyenoord were rampant at Go Ahead Eagles, winning 5-1. Ajax made hard work of Heracles to win 4-3 on the road, but they are currently 14 points behind PSV, the leaders, but they have three games in hand.
