Athletic Club star Alex Berenguer has on Wednesday provided a fresh insight into his future with the club.
As much comes fresh off his latest goalscoring display for Ernesto Valverde's troops.
Afforded a starting berth in Athletic's La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo, attacker Berenguer opened the scoring in proceedings, only for Los Leones to surrender to an eventual 2-1 defeat.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at Balaidos, though, it was not matters on the pitch which took their place centre stage in the 28-year-old's interview.
Instead, the subject of his future was put to Berenguer once more.
For those not aware, the former Osasuna talent is set to see his current contract in the Basque Country come to an end in the summer.
Despite repeated attempts on the part of the Athletic Club brass to work out fresh terms, an agreement between the parties is yet to be found on a renewal.
But Berenguer is nevertheless confident that, when all is said and done, he will go on to stay put at San Mames through the summer and beyond.
"We are going step by step," the winger explained to DAZN, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. "I think we will reach a successful conclusion. I have said it many times, my first choice is Athletic."
