Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction & preview: Boniface to hit the target
Source:Afrik Foot

Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella will be keen to help extend their side's unbeaten run when Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen kicks off in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Xabi Alonso's side have already been crowned champions and have nothing more to play for in the league, especially with the UEFA Europa League and DFB Pokal to come, but they would certainly have an eye on finishing the season without tasting defeat.

Dortmund, though, have a lot riding on the game, with UEFA Champions League football at stake as the club currently sits in fifth position. With the title already wrapped up, Alonso is likely to field a much-changed side against Dortmund and Boniface could start his second successive league game since returning from injury.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen: Prediction and preview Photo by Icon Sport Quick stats Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in 44 matches in all competitions Dortmund have lost just once in their last six Bundesliga matches Both teams have qualified for the semi-finals of the European competitions they're involved in, with Dortmund reaching the last four of the UEFA Champions League while Leverkusen have also booked their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. Match preview Matches between Dortmund and Leverkusen have always proved to be entertaining but, for the first time in a while, the latter will go into the fixture as favourites. This is because Leverkusen have been head and shoulders above every other side in the German top-flight, having dethroned Bayern Munich and ended their 11-year reign as champions.

Die Werkself were crowned champions last week after their 5-0 thumping of Werder Bremen and carried the momentum into the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals against West Ham United, where they secured a 1-1 draw (3-1 on aggregate) to advance to the last four.

Xabi Alonso is, however, expected to ring the changes for Sunday's game against Leverkusen. Boniface, who was a substitute against West Ham, is likely to replace Patrik Schick in the starting line-up at Signal Iduna Park. The Nigeria international handed his first start, following his three-month injury layoff, in last week's win over Werder Bremen and could now make it back-to-back starts in the Bundesliga after his recovery.

The striker's compatriot Nathan Tella has also become a key player in the team and could once again command start after starting against the Hammers in midweek.

Dortmund are, however, expected to field a full-strength side for Sunday's encounter. Having gained momentum from their impressive victory over Atletico Madrid, which saw the Black and Yellow qualify for the semi-final of the Champions League, Edin Terzic's side will now be looking to break into the Bundesliga's top four.

Ian Maatsen and Marcel Sabitzer, who both starred against Atletico in midweek, are expected to start against Leverkusen but Germany international of Nigerian descent Karim Adeyemi will not feature due to suspension. Sebastian Haller, Borja Iglesias and Adam Hlozek have also been ruled out due to injury.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen has always been a high-scoring fixture, although Die Werkself do not have a great record at the Signal Iduna Park, having won just once in their last five matches there.

However, Leverkusen's current form, backed by their 44-game unbeaten run, makes them huge favourites this time. The only caveat is that Dortmund have greatly improved in recent weeks and that makes the match tricky, especially as Leverkusen are expected to rest some of their key players. It's likely to end in a score draw and Boniface should be among the goals.
