Forward sold by Leeds United in 2023 nearly signed for Luton Town this season – Report

Leeds United let young attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz leave the club permanently back in January 2023 to LAFC, and he is now on the radar of Celta Vigo after nearly joining Luton Town.

Leeds' youth investment over the past years has been a success overall with Crysencio Summerville alone proving to be valuable enough to deem the system profitable.

There have been multiple flopped talents at Leeds that have left the club and gone onto fruitful careers elsewhere, though.

His form in California has been impressive, with seven goals and eight assists for LAFC in 52 outings since joining.

Bogusz has been largely playing as a centre-forward this season, and his performances has caught the eye of La Liga side Celta Vigo, according to Meczyki.

Will Leeds get promoted?

Bogusz could have signed for Luton Town The same report relays these comments from the player himself, indicating that he could have moved to the Premier League in the recent January window:

"I will only say that the transfer lacked some time. We will see what will happen in the summer, because there are also signals from LaLiga - said the player."

The report names Luton Town as the side that wanted to land Bogusz in the January window, with Rob Edwards striving to keep the Hatters in the Premier League.

There is no mention of whether there is a sell-on clause with Leeds' deal to sell Bogusz to LAFC for EUR1million (PS860,000) last year.

Bogusz could be another to prove valuable elsewhere A lot of these youth signings we made came with undoubted talent, but circumstances stopped them from being able to show it at Elland Road.

Bogusz's knee issues in Spain on loan stopped him progressing, and he could be the next to prove in Europe that he's one that got away.

Like Leif Davis, Rafa Mujica and others, Leeds were more than justified letting them go, but their talent seems to be manifesting right now at other clubs.
