One of those who has been linked in the past week is Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen. The 27-year-old Denmark international is according to some suggestions, on the Toon's wish list for January as they look to strengthen their defensive options. A player who knows the Premier League well from his eight years at Chelsea, the centre-back's stock has risen even more since his switch to Barcelona last year.

Christensen has made clear his frustration at not being a regular starter at Barcelona this season, however Barca manager Xavi is not minded to let the player leave in January and it appears the player is not looking for an exit either, with reports suggesting he will now stay put at the La Liga side until the summer at least, which would end Newcastle's reported PS40m interest.
