Luis Diaz's father addresses transfer speculation linking the Liverpool forward with a move to La Liga champions Barcelona.

Luis Diaz's father has addressed rumours linking the Liverpool forward with a move to Barcelona. The 26-year-old recently had to deal with personal turmoil after his parents were kidnapped by a National Liberation Army known as the ELN.

While Diaz's mother was released within hours, his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, continued to be held by the kidnappers, before being released after 12 days.

As a result of the ordeal, Diaz missed games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in the Premier League and EFL Cup respectively.

However, following the news of his father's release, he returned to the squad for Liverpool's away trip to Luton, where he came off the bench to score the equaliser.

After featuring in games against Toulouse and Brentford, Diaz subsequently joined up with the Colombia squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Paraguay.

With his father in attendance, Diaz played a starring role in Thursday's win over Brazil, scoring a quickfire brace to help his country come from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.

Diaz's performances for club and country have seemingly caught the attention of La Liga champions Barcelona, who have been linked with a potential move.

When questioned about the transfer rumours, the player's father admitted his son has always been a supporter of the Catalan giants.

"[The] truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment," Diaz Snr. told Win Sports. ""It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there.

"So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him. Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God.

"There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world."

With Diaz under contract until the summer of 2027, Liverpool would likely demand a significant fee, which could prove difficult for Barcelona due to their ongoing financial issues.

Since joining Jurgen Klopp's side in January 2022, he has scored 15 goals and contributed nine assists in 61 competitive appearances.

After facing Paraguay on Tuesday, Diaz will return to Merseyside ahead of Liverpool's crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City on November 25.
